Square-to-Round Adapters
Connect a square or rectangular downspout to a round receiving connection. Check both upper dimensions and the lower pipe opening when selecting the fitting.

A downspout adapter joins components that do not share the same shape or dimensions. It may connect a rectangular downspout to a round drainage pipe or transition between two round pipe sizes. Selecting the correct fitting starts with measuring both connections and understanding how the pieces will overlap.
K&M Sheet Metal offers square-to-round metal adapters and downspout reducer funnels, with custom requirements available for review. These fittings provide a metal transition that can coordinate with the visible downspout and surrounding architectural details.
Connect a square or rectangular downspout to a round receiving connection. Check both upper dimensions and the lower pipe opening when selecting the fitting.
Transition from a larger round opening to a smaller one. The receiving pipe must still be suitable for the drainage demand of the system.
This fitting changes the cross-section from square or rectangular at the top to round at the bottom. Listed combinations include 2 × 3 to 3 inches, 3 × 4 to 4 inches, and 4 × 6 to 6 inches, among other options. These are nominal selection labels; the fabricated opening and insertion dimensions differ.
The published drawing identifies the upper opening, lower transition and connection extensions separately. Review it when planning the fit, especially for an existing drain or a pipe made by another manufacturer. Confirm the overall height for the selected configuration before cutting the downspout.
The reducer funnel provides a tapered transition between round sizes. Listed examples include 4 to 3 inches, 6 to 4 inches and 8 to 6 inches. The product description specifies an 8-inch overall height, comprising a 6-inch transition and a 1-inch connection allowance at each end.
The ends can be trimmed or formed in the field where the application requires it. Test the complete assembly before making adjustments, and confirm the necessary overlap so the adapter does not end up too short.
Nominal pipe sizes are not a substitute for measurements. Different pipe materials, wall thicknesses, profiles and socket designs can produce different inside and outside dimensions even when their size labels match.
For replacement work, include photos with a tape measure visible. If you need to change the pipe’s direction as well as its size, review the layout with the appropriate downspout elbows.
Metal adapters can form part of a connection to a round stormwater drain, including suitable PVC arrangements. Identify the actual receiving pipe or fitting before ordering. A nominal 4-inch drain does not describe every socket, pipe opening or coupling sold under that size.
Plan the connection for the intended drainage system and retain access for maintenance. Do not assume that a fitted metal transition is a pressure-rated or watertight plumbing coupling. Where a sealed connection is required, have the installer specify the complete joint arrangement.
Check capacity before reducing size. An adapter changes the connection geometry; it does not establish that a smaller downstream pipe can carry the incoming water. Have the drainage route and capacity checked when selecting a reduction or investigating overflow.
Adapter listings include copper, painted aluminum, Kynar-finished aluminum and steel, Galvalume Plus and specialty metals. Confirm the choices for the selected model and dimensions rather than assuming every material is available for every configuration.
Specify the base metal, thickness and finish when matching existing work. A copper-colored coating is different from copper metal, and an existing finish may have weathered. Compare a physical sample where available if color matching is important.
Dry-fit the adapter and both adjoining components before making the final cut. Account for insertion depth and confirm the direction of water flow through the overlapping parts.
The connection method depends on the metals, coatings and receiving pipe. Mechanical fasteners or soldered connections may be appropriate for different assemblies; use the method specified for the selected materials. Arrange suitable pipe support rather than relying on the transition fitting to hold a long unsupported run.
Plan supports with your downspout straps and brackets, and preserve access to a cleanout where needed.
The two adapter families are made to order. For a configuration outside the listed options, send a dimensioned sketch of both ends, overall height, connection direction and any offset.
Include the material, finish, quantity, delivery location and requested schedule. Clear measurements help distinguish a simple size transition from an assembly that also needs a change of direction or a separate drain fitting.

Plan the transition between your downspout and the next part of the drainage system.
An adapter connects components with different shapes or dimensions, such as a rectangular downspout and a round receiving pipe. The correct fitting must match both connections and the available installation space.
A square-to-round adapter changes the pipe shape from square or rectangular to round. A round reducer funnel transitions between round sizes. Choose according to the actual shape and measurements of both components.
Measure both ends of the connection. Record the downspout profile and outside dimensions, the receiving pipe’s inside opening and material, and the available height. Compare the measurements with the selected product drawing instead of relying only on nominal size labels.
Do not assume so. Pipe wall thickness, socket design and fitting type affect the actual opening. Identify and measure the receiving pipe or socket before ordering, and confirm which part is intended to fit inside the other.
Check the actual profile and dimensions before selecting the adapter. Corrugations, seams and end shape affect fit. Send measurements and a photo if the published drawing does not establish compatibility with your pipe.
The round reducer funnel is described as 8 inches overall, with a 6-inch transition and 1-inch connection allowances at each end. Confirm the overall height of a square-to-round adapter for the selected configuration before ordering or cutting the downspout.
Only after confirming that the downstream drainage system can handle the incoming water. A reducer creates a physical connection but does not increase the capacity of the smaller pipe. Check the complete drainage route when choosing a reduction.
Not necessarily. Overflow can involve blockage, insufficient capacity or another problem elsewhere in the drainage route. Check the gutter, outlet, downspout and receiving drain before changing the connection size.
The reducer funnel description allows field trimming or forming where necessary. Dry-fit the assembly first and preserve enough overlap for both connections. Ask K&M before making an adjustment that substantially changes the intended fit.
The appropriate joining method depends on the metal, finish and receiving component. Soldering may suit a specified solderable-metal assembly; other connections use compatible mechanical fastening and any sealing required by the joint design. Do not apply one joining method to every material.
No, our downspout adapters are meant for a gravity drainage system and are not intended or designed for any pressure related plumbing.
Yes. Contact K&M with a dimensioned sketch showing both openings, overall height, connection direction and any offset. Include the material, finish, quantity and delivery location so the fabrication options can be reviewed.
Specify the material, coating and color as completely as possible. Existing finishes may have weathered, and similar color names do not guarantee an exact match. Compare a physical sample where available before making a final choice.
The square-to-round and reducer funnel are made-to-order products. Preparation time depends on the selected configuration and production schedule. Confirm the estimated lead time for your order and allow separately for shipping.
Check the selected product’s downloads or the Submittals and Downloads page for the square-to-round adapter and reducer funnel references. Verify that the drawing matches your intended configuration, especially for custom work.
