Plain Round Downspouts
A smooth circular profile often paired with half-round gutters and traditional architectural details. Selected listings offer 3-, 4-, 5- and 6-inch diameters. Confirm the sizes offered in your chosen material.

Downspouts carry rainwater from a gutter or conductor head to the next part of the drainage system. Also called leaders or downpipes, they work with outlets, elbows, supports and discharge connections to guide water along a planned route.
K&M Sheet Metal offers plain round, plain square, square corrugated and round corrugated downspouts in copper, aluminum, steel and specialty metals. Standard listings generally use 10-foot sections, with custom dimensions and lengths available for review.
Shape and surface texture affect the appearance of the downspout and which fittings it accepts. Match the full profile and dimensions when selecting elbows, outlets, brackets and cleanouts.

Smooth square and rectangular profiles suit a range of residential and commercial buildings. Options include common rectangular sizes and custom dimensions. Selected products offer a tapered-end option to simplify joining sections.
The familiar ribbed rectangular profile is commonly used with K-style gutters. Current K&M listings include 3 × 4-inch sections in several materials. Use fittings made for the matching corrugated profile.
A circular pipe with a ribbed surface, offering a different appearance from plain round. Current listings include a 4-inch profile. Verify matching elbows and attachments instead of assuming plain round components will fit.
These are profile examples, not a statement that every size and finish is stocked. Corrugated profiles depend on available forming equipment; additional sizes may require sourcing or may not be available.
Downspout sizing depends on the roof area served, local design rainfall, roof geometry and the number and location of drainage points. The gutter, outlet and downstream route must work together. An attractive profile or a familiar gutter-to-downspout pairing does not establish sufficient capacity for a particular roof.
For replacement work, measure the existing pipe and fittings. For a new system or a recurring overflow problem, have the drainage layout and capacity checked before ordering. Increasing the downspout size alone may not resolve a restricted gutter outlet or a blocked downstream drain.
| Material | What to consider |
|---|---|
| Painted aluminum | Options include 0.027-inch standard painted aluminum and 0.032-inch Kynar-finished aluminum on selected profiles. Specify the thickness and coating when coordinating colors. |
| Steel | Kynar-finished steel, Galvalume Plus, G90 galvanized steel and Bonderized steel are distinct selections. Identify the coating and gauge rather than ordering only by the word “steel.” |
| Copper | Selected products offer 16- and 20-ounce copper. Bare copper weathers over time; its color and patina depend on exposure and the environment. |
| Zinc | A specialty metal option with its own weathering characteristics. Confirm profile, thickness, finish and sourcing for the requested product. |
| Freedom Gray and lead-coated copper | These are different coated-copper materials. Freedom Gray uses a tin-zinc alloy coating; specify the complete material name and weight. |
Choose materials with the adjoining gutters, fittings and project environment in mind. Kynar is a coating resin brand, not a base metal, and a copper-colored paint finish is different from copper sheet. Physical samples are more useful than screen colors when matching an existing installation.
Explore materials and color chartsStandard downspout listings generally specify 10-foot sections. Plan the number of pieces using the installed run, joint overlaps, offsets and cuts; two 10-foot pieces do not necessarily provide 20 feet of finished coverage after overlapping.
Selected plain-square products, including copper and Freedom Gray, offer tapered ends. The smaller bottom of one section fits into the larger top of the next. Select the option where offered and confirm the connection details for your order. Field adjustments may still be needed.
Other sections may use crimped ends or require field preparation. Cutting a section can remove the prepared connection. In a typical gravity-flow assembly, the upper piece overlaps inside the receiving lower piece so the water follows the joint. Use suitable fasteners and supports for the selected system.
Confirm the joint detail: Soldering is not a blanket requirement for every copper downspout connection. Attachment, joint treatment, movement and cleaning access should follow the specified assembly. Do not assume a gravity-flow downspout is a sealed pressure pipe.
Gutter guards and outlet strainers can reduce debris entering the pipe, but they still need inspection and cleaning. Keep the entire route clear and direct discharge to the intended drainage point.
K&M can review custom smooth profiles, larger dimensions, specialty materials and longer sections, including lengths up to 19 feet 6 inches where the profile and material permit. This is not a universal length option for every product. Corrugated sizes and lengths are subject to forming and sourcing limits.
For a quote, send the profile, dimensions, material and finish, quantity and cut lengths, connection details and any drawings. Include the delivery ZIP code or pickup preference and your requested schedule.
Standard 10-foot downspout product listings require a skid and freight shipping. Review truck access and unloading arrangements before ordering. Local pickup is available in Durham, North Carolina; wait for confirmation that the order is ready and arrange suitable transport for the lengths ordered.

Compare profiles and materials, understand connection options and plan your order.
A downspout is a pipe that carries rainwater from a gutter or conductor head toward the designated discharge point. Leader and downpipe are other names commonly used for this component. It works with outlets, elbows, supports and downstream drainage connections.
The range includes plain round, plain square or rectangular, square corrugated and round corrugated profiles. Sizes, materials and end options vary by product. Match the full profile when selecting fittings; smooth and corrugated connections are not automatically interchangeable.
Size the system for the roof area served, design rainfall, roof geometry and the number and position of outlets. Gutter width alone is not enough to determine the correct pipe size. For a replacement, measure the existing components; for a new system or repeated overflow, have the drainage layout and capacity checked.
Yes, with suitable outlets and connections. Round downspouts are often paired with half-round gutters, while rectangular profiles are common with K-style and box gutters, but these are not mandatory combinations. Confirm fit and drainage capacity for the complete system.
Standard listings generally specify 10-foot sections. Custom lengths may be available, including up to 20 feet where the profile and material permit. Confirm the exact product and transport requirements. Allow for overlaps and cuts when calculating finished coverage.
K&M can review custom smooth round and square or rectangular sizes. Corrugated profiles depend on available forming equipment; current listings include 3 × 4-inch square corrugated and 4-inch round corrugated products. Other corrugated sizes require availability or sourcing review rather than an assumption of custom fabrication.
Selected plain-square products offer a taper that makes the bottom smaller than the top, allowing one section to slide into the next. Check and select the option on the relevant listing. It can reduce field notching or crimping, although some installation adjustments may still be required.
No. End preparation varies by product and option. Some use crimped ends, selected plain-square products offer tapered ends, and other connections require field preparation. Cutting pipe can remove the prepared end. Check the connection details and plan any tools needed before installation.
A typical gravity-flow connection places the upper section’s reduced end inside the receiving lower section, with suitable fastening. Hooks, straps or brackets secure the run to the building. Connection treatment and support details depend on the profile, material, wall construction and project requirements.
No. Copper can be soldered, but not every gravity-flow downspout connection requires it. Joint design should account for attachment, water flow, movement and access for maintenance. Follow the specified assembly rather than applying a universal soldering rule to every connection.
There is no single best material for every project. Compare the desired appearance, existing gutters, exposure, finish, thickness and budget. Options include aluminum, steel, copper and specialty metals. Confirm the exact profile and material combination rather than assuming every finish is available on every downspout.
No. Kynar is a resin brand used in coatings on metals such as aluminum and steel. Copper Penny is a paint color, while copper is the underlying metal itself. Specify the base metal and finish separately when matching components.
Adapters and funnels can connect selected shapes and sizes. Provide the dimensions and profiles of both ends and the direction of water flow. A reduction can restrict the drainage path, so physical fit should not be treated as confirmation of adequate system capacity.
An exact match cannot be assumed. Existing finishes may have weathered, and color names can differ between manufacturers and coating systems. Identify the original material and finish if possible and compare a current physical sample before ordering.
Gutter guards and outlet strainers can reduce debris entering the pipe, while a compatible cleanout provides access for removal. All require periodic inspection and cleaning. Check elbows and downstream drains if water still backs up; no accessory eliminates maintenance throughout the system.
The standard 10-foot downspout listings require a skid and freight shipping. Confirm delivery access and unloading arrangements for the destination. Shipping eligibility and cost depend on the complete order, and local pickup in Durham, North Carolina is also available.
Availability depends on the profile, size, material, finish, end option and quantity. Some items require fabrication or special sourcing. Confirm preparation time for your order and allow separately for transit. Wait for the ready notification before arriving for pickup.
Send the profile and dimensions, material and thickness, finish or color, quantity and section lengths, and any required connection or offset details. Include photographs or drawings for matching work, plus the delivery location or pickup preference and requested schedule.
