Conductor Heads & Leader Heads

Copper Emperor conductor heads
Copper Emperor conductor heads from K&M Sheet Metal.
Functional Drainage. Architectural Detail.

Handcrafted for Your Building’s Roofline

K&M Sheet Metal manufactures conductor heads for homes, commercial properties and industrial buildings. From simple collection boxes to detailed architectural designs, our selection offers different shapes, materials and finishes to complement the building and its downspout system.

Our conductor heads are handmade in the USA. Choose from the models above, or send us an existing design, measured sketch or restoration reference for a custom fabrication review.

What Does a Conductor Head Do?

Also called a leader head or collector box, a conductor head receives roof water and directs it into a downspout. A box positioned outside a through-wall scupper is often called a scupper box. The correct configuration depends on where water enters, how the box connects to the downspout and the space available on the building.

Coordinate your selection with the downspouts, gutters and flashing details used on the project. Confirm dimensions and connections before ordering, particularly when replacing an existing piece.

Materials, Finishes & Construction

Copper is a popular choice for our conductor heads. Depending on the model, other options may include aluminum, Kynar-finished aluminum or steel, zinc, stainless steel, Freedom Gray, lead-coated copper, galvanized steel, Bonderized steel and Galvalume Plus.

Material selection affects both appearance and assembly. Suitable metals and profiles can use soldered construction, while coated aluminum and steel models typically use mechanical connections. Water-carrying seams in riveted designs require compatible sealing; review the sealant options on the product listing.

Custom Profiles & Corner Designs

Have a historic conductor head to reproduce or a specific design in mind? Send photos and measured drawings so we can review the shape, details and fabrication requirements. A reference photo helps explain the appearance; dimensions establish the size and fit.

K&M also offers inside corner and outside corner conductor heads. Include the corner angle, wall clearance, inlet location and downspout connection when requesting a corner configuration or a modification to an existing model.

Details to Confirm Before Ordering

  • Size and location: Overall width, height, projection and available mounting space.
  • Connections: Incoming water location, outlet shape and dimensions, and downspout position.
  • Material and finish: The selected metal, thickness where specified, and finish or color.
  • Project needs: Quantity, drawings or photos, delivery ZIP code and requested schedule.

Have your project designer or installer confirm drainage capacity and installation details. A decorative style or larger-looking box alone does not establish the correct size for a roof drainage system.

We serve contractors and homeowners in North Carolina and throughout the country. Availability and preparation time vary by model and options. Review the product listing or contact us before ordering if your project has a firm deadline.

FAQs
Questions Before You Order

Conductor Head & Leader Head FAQs

Compare materials, understand the construction options and confirm the details needed for your order.

What is a conductor head, and how is it used?

A conductor head is a collection box that directs incoming roof water into a downspout. Depending on the installation, it may receive water from a through-wall scupper, gutter outlet or another roof drainage detail. Its size, inlet position and outlet must suit the drainage arrangement.

Are leader heads, conductor heads and scupper boxes the same thing?

Leader head, conductor head and collector box are commonly used names for similar products. Scupper box often refers to a collection box positioned outside a through-wall scupper. The scupper itself is the opening or outlet through the wall; the collection box receives the discharge and directs it into a downspout.

What is the best material for a conductor head?

The best choice depends on the design, finish, surrounding materials and project requirements. Copper is a popular option, and soldered construction is available for suitable metals and designs. Painted aluminum or steel can coordinate with a colored gutter system. Confirm the material and joint construction offered for your selected model rather than assuming every design is made the same way.

Why are some models unavailable in aluminum or steel?

Some intricate designs require many separate parts. Assembling these parts with rivets can produce more visible fasteners than the intended design allows. For that reason, K&M does not offer every profile in aluminum, steel or Galvalume Plus. Check the material options on the individual product listing.

What aluminum and steel finishes does K&M offer?

Depending on the model, options include PAC-CLAD Kynar-finished aluminum or Galvalume steel, as well as standard 0.027-inch aluminum gutter coil. Other materials and finishes may be available by request. Confirm the base metal, thickness, finish and color for the specific conductor head you plan to order.

Why are coated aluminum and steel conductor heads riveted?

K&M uses mechanical assembly for these models to avoid the finish damage that heat-based joining can cause. The material and profile determine the construction method, and rivets may remain visible. Review the selected product details if fastener appearance is important to your project.

Do riveted conductor heads need sealant?

Yes. Water-carrying seams in riveted models need appropriate sealing. K&M offers a sealant option for applicable products; check the listing and your selected options rather than assuming sealing is included. Any sealant used must be compatible with the metal and finish.

How do I choose the size and outlet for my downspout?

Check the conductor head dimensions, incoming water location, outlet shape and size, and the connection to your downspout. Measure an existing installation before ordering a replacement. Have your project designer or installer confirm the required drainage capacity; the outside dimensions or appearance of the box alone do not establish its suitability.

Can you reproduce an existing conductor head or make a custom design?

Yes. K&M can review custom designs and reproduction requests. Send clear photographs, a dimensioned drawing or measured sketch, material and finish requirements, and the quantity needed. Include the inlet and outlet details so we can assess both the appearance and the required connections.

Do you offer inside and outside corner conductor heads?

Yes. K&M offers inside and outside corner designs and can review custom corner configurations. Provide the corner angle, available wall space, inlet location and required outlet position. Not every standard model is suitable for every corner arrangement.

Are conductor heads in stock, and how long does an order take?

Availability varies by model, material, finish and quantity. Some items may be stocked, while others require fabrication. Contact K&M to confirm availability and estimated preparation time for your selection. Allow separately for shipping, especially when planning around an installation date.

How much does a custom conductor head cost?

Custom pricing depends on the dimensions, material, finish, design complexity and quantity. Send your specifications, drawings or photos, delivery location and requested schedule for a quote. For listed models, review the product page and selected options for available pricing.
