For the Shop and the Jobsite

Tools for Cutting, Forming, Seaming and Soldering

K&M Sheet Metal supplies specialty hand tools and installation supplies for metal roofing, gutters, flashing, slate roofing, siding and HVAC work. Explore snips, seamers, folding tools, rolling benders, soldering equipment, slate tools and the consumables needed to complete the job.

Our selection includes Malco, Freund, RAU, Guilbert Express, John Stortz & Son and WUKO. Whether you are building a tool collection or replacing a specific item, start with the operation, metal and dimensions involved. The right tool must suit both the task and the material’s thickness.

Shop Tools by the Work You Need to Do

Snips & Cutting Tools

Compare straight-cutting and shaped-cutting snips for trimming sheet metal and working around details. Blade pattern, cutting direction and rated material capacity matter when selecting a pair.

Folders & Hand Seamers

Form edges, bend flanges and work on roof details with folding tools, seaming tongs and anvils. Compare jaw width, working depth and straight or angled access.

WUKO Rolling Benders

Explore portable edge-forming tools for sheet metal work. Models perform different stages of bending and hemming, so choose by the bend range and geometry you need.

Soldering Tools & Supplies

Find Express iron kits, replacement tips, flux, solder bars and accessories. Match the equipment and consumables to the metal and joint you will be working on.

Slate Roofing Tools

Browse slate cutters, hammers, rippers and slater’s stakes for slate work and repairs. Check the tool’s stated application and capacity for the slate being used.

Hand Tools & Accessories

Complete your setup with crimpers, notchers, riveters, scribers and caulking guns. Select the model and accessories for the specific connection, layout or assembly task.

Also review our fasteners when planning your installation. Match the fastener type, material and dimensions to the connection instead of selecting by appearance alone.

Choose by Material, Capacity and Access

Check What the Tool Can Handle

  • Metal: Identify whether you are working with copper, aluminum, steel, stainless steel or another material.
  • Thickness: Compare the actual thickness with the tool’s rating for that metal. A capacity stated for mild steel does not establish the same capacity for stainless steel.
  • Operation: Cutting, bending an edge, flattening a fold and closing a roof seam require different tool features.
  • Dimensions: Check jaw width, working depth, bend height and the clearance around the detail.

Think About the Finished Detail

For snips, compare the blade pattern and intended cutting direction. For hand seamers, compare the jaw shape and reach. Straight, offset and angled tools offer different access around corners and formed edges.

Keep contact surfaces clean when working on painted or exposed architectural metal, and follow the tool and material manufacturer’s instructions. Test the operation on a suitable offcut before starting a visible finished piece.

Need help comparing options? Send the tool model, base metal, thickness and a photo or drawing of the detail to our team.

Standing Seam Tools: Match the Stage of the Work

Forming a panel edge and closing an assembled roof seam are different operations. A general hand seamer, an edge roller and a dedicated standing-seam closing tool are not automatically interchangeable.

For example, K&M lists the RAU 128 for the first-stage fold that creates a single lock, while the RAU 131 finishes the second lock. Confirm the seam dimensions and the required stage before selecting a tool. The specified roof system determines the finished seam configuration.

WUKO benders also have different working ranges. Some form an edge from flat to 90 degrees; selected Disc-O-Bender tools continue an already formed edge toward 180 degrees. Check the individual model’s bend range, material capacity and suitability for straight or curved work.

Plan the Complete Soldering Setup

Start with an iron and tip suited to the work, then check the kit’s component list. K&M’s Express Premium kit is a self-igniting iron, with a medium Turbo Hammer tip, hose, regulator and replacement gas nozzle. Other kits and replacement parts should be checked individually.

Review fuel requirements, solder alloy, flux and preparation accessories separately. Do not assume that fuel, solder or flux is included just because a product is called a kit. Choose flux for the metal and surface condition; the catalog includes separate products for copper and zinc and for oxidized metals.

Replacement tips and selected service parts are available, but compatibility depends on the iron model. Use the manufacturer’s operating instructions and the consumable’s handling and cleanup directions for the selected setup.

Questions Before You Order

Sheet Metal Tools & Roofing Supplies FAQs

Compare tool types, check compatibility and plan the supplies needed for your next project.

What types of sheet metal and roofing tools does K&M sell?

Our selection includes snips, hand seamers, folders, rolling benders, crimpers, notchers, riveters, anvils, soldering equipment and slate roofing tools. We also offer installation supplies, including fasteners and soldering consumables. Check the relevant category for the individual models and options.

Which tool brands do you carry?

The selection includes Malco, Freund, RAU Systems, Guilbert Express, John Stortz & Son and WUKO, along with other brands shown in the catalog. Availability varies by model; a brand listing does not mean every tool made by that manufacturer is stocked.

How do I know whether a tool can handle my metal thickness?

Check the manufacturer’s capacity for the exact metal and operation. A rating for mild steel should not be treated as the same rating for stainless steel, aluminum or copper. Include the actual thickness, material and intended cut or bend when asking us to help compare tools.

How should I choose sheet metal snips?

Compare the intended cutting pattern, direction, blade length and material capacity. Long straight cuts and detailed shaped cuts can call for different blade designs. Use the individual product specifications rather than assuming all snips in a brand have the same capabilities.

What is the difference between a hand seamer and a standing-seam closing tool?

A general hand seamer grips and bends sheet metal edges within its capacity. A dedicated standing-seam tool is shaped for a particular seam-closing operation. Match the seam profile and folding stage instead of assuming a general seamer can replace every specialized roofing tool.

Are single-lock and double-lock seamers interchangeable?

They perform different stages of seam closing. For example, the RAU 128 listed by K&M creates the first-stage single lock, while the RAU 131 completes the second lock. Confirm the tool’s seam dimensions and use the closing sequence specified for the roof system.

Can one WUKO bender complete every bend or hem?

No. Models have different working ranges and capacities. Some raise a flat edge toward 90 degrees, while selected hemming tools continue a previously formed edge toward 180 degrees. Check the bend range, working height, material capacity and suitability for the shape of your workpiece.

What should I check before buying a soldering kit?

Review the exact included components, iron and tip style, fuel requirements and compatible accessories. Check separately for solder, flux and preparation supplies. A kit name alone does not establish that everything needed for your particular job is included.

Can I use the same flux on every metal?

Do not assume one flux is suitable for every metal or surface condition. K&M lists different flux products, including options for copper and zinc and for oxidized metals. Follow the selected product’s compatibility, preparation and cleanup instructions.

Do you offer replacement tips, blades or tool parts?

Yes, selected replacement items are listed, including Express soldering tips and service parts, RAU replacement jaws and a blade for the Stortz Slate Cutter and Trimmer. Match the replacement to the exact tool model. Contact us if you cannot identify the required part.

Do you sell tools for slate roofing?

Yes. The slate tool category includes cutters, hammers, rippers and slater’s stakes. Check the listed application, size and slate thickness capacity before choosing a tool. Replacement components are available for some models.

Are all tools made by K&M Sheet Metal?

No. K&M manufactures sheet metal products and also distributes tools and supplies from other manufacturers. The brand and manufacturer information in each tool listing identifies the product you are purchasing.

Are tools in stock, and where do they ship from?

Availability depends on the specific model and quantity. Orders may ship from K&M in Durham, North Carolina, or directly from a supplier. Confirm availability and estimated timing if your project has a deadline, and allow separately for shipping transit.

Can homeowners order tools or arrange local pickup?

Yes. We work with homeowners as well as contractors and trade customers. Local pickup is available in Durham, North Carolina. Confirm pickup arrangements for your order and wait for notification that it is ready before arriving.

What information should I send if I need help selecting a tool?

Send the type of work, base material, thickness and relevant dimensions. Include a photo or drawing of the detail, any tool model you are considering, and your required schedule. For standing-seam work, include the panel profile and seam-closing stage.
