K-Style End Caps
Match the ogee profile and select the required left or right end. Size and construction vary by material and product.
Gutter end caps close the open ends of the gutter trough. A correctly fitted and sealed cap helps contain rainwater so it can travel toward the outlet. Selecting the right part means matching the gutter’s shape, size, material and, where applicable, left or right orientation.
K&M Sheet Metal supplies K-style, half-round and box gutter end caps, with custom fabrication available for project-specific profiles. Options include stamped parts and laser-cut, tabbed designs, depending on the product and size.
Match the ogee profile and select the required left or right end. Size and construction vary by material and product.
Pick a suitable flat or decorative end cap product. Universal designs are available that fit either end of the chosen half-round gutter.
Match the box gutter name and size with the corresponding end cap name and size. For custom end caps, provide a complete cross-section with widths, including both front and back heights.
K-style caps match the gutter’s front ogee style with a flat back. Both left and right caps are available, so be sure to count each end separately and check the product image or drawing against the installed gutter orientation before placing your order.
Common choices include 5- and 6-inch caps, with bigger sizes available for select products. For instance, K-style 7- and 8-inch end caps come with tabs. Don’t assume every end cap has a crimp-on design—each product listing and photo will clearly show what you’ll get.
Half-round caps finish off the curved gutter profile. Our universal end caps work for both left and right ends and are compatible with Reverse bead and Euro bead half-round gutters. Always verify the size and profile for the specific cap instead of assuming “universal” means it fits every gutter.
For a decorative touch, K&M offers copper spherical quarter-ball end caps. Their smooth, rounded shape carries the front bead seamlessly around to the back of the gutter, creating a distinctive look.
Flat and decorative caps are different designs. Choose the appearance you want, then verify the measurements and available options before ordering.
Box gutters come in a variety of distinct cross-sections. Be sure to match the named style and dimensions, pairing the end cap size with the same size as the related box gutter. A cap for one box profile won’t fit another just because both are labeled 6 inches.
The range includes caps for A-Style Commercial, F-Style Industrial and D-Style Residential box profiles, with L-Style Brownstone and U-style products also available. For a custom gutter or a profile from another manufacturer you would like to match, provide a dimensioned cross-section and clear end-view photographs for review.
Stamped end caps are made using custom tooling, which can be costly and difficult to maintain, so we only keep tooling for the most common sizes. For less common sizes, tabbed caps are available. Fabricated tabbed end caps feature a cut profile with bent tabs that form attachment surfaces. The notches between these tabs help the metal follow the shape and doesn't indicate any damage to the part.
Construction depends on the size and material. A tabbed end cap fits inside the gutter, with screws or rivets fastened through the tabs to hold it in place. A crimp-on end cap fits over the outside profile of the gutter and needs to be crimped in several spots to secure it.
Handed end caps should match the end that’s being closed, with direction determined from the perspective of standing in front of the gutter as if it was installed. If you’re unsure which direction to order, check the product detail orientation after selecting your option. All handed end caps update the displayed picture to reflect what you’ll be ordering, helping to minimize mistakes.
Half-round end caps are typically universal and will fit either end, but that does not remove the need to match size or bead style. A straight, isolated gutter run commonly needs a closure at each end; count the actual open ends in your layout rather than buying a pair for every section of gutter.
Popular choices include 0.027-inch painted aluminum, 0.032-inch Kynar-finished aluminum, 24-gauge Kynar-finished steel or Galvalume Plus, and 16-ounce copper. These are typical setups, not a standard for every cap. Specialty metals and different thicknesses depend on the product selected or custom order.
Match the base metal and coating as well as the color. A copper-colored painted end cap is different from copper metal. Existing finishes can weather, and the same color name across different coating systems may not produce an exact match.
Tabbed end caps should be secured with compatible screws or rivets. For stamped end caps, crimp the outer edge in several spots to attach it firmly to the gutter.
For aluminum, galvalume and Kynar steel remember to seal the end cap when finished. We provide high-quality sealants in popular colors designed for metal. Avoid cheap sealants that can fail and leak in hard-to-reach gutter runs. Do it once and do it right.
For copper, freedom gray, lead-coated copper, galvanized steel, and stainless steel projects, K&M recommends soldering your gutter seams and end caps. We provide everything you need to get the job done right, including soldering irons, solder, and flux.
For custom work, include photos, a measured profile or sample information, quantities and delivery requirements. Ask about preparation time before ordering for a deadline.
Find the correct closure for your gutter profile and plan the connection.
Match the gutter profile, size, actual dimensions, material and finish. Check whether the cap is left-handed, right-handed or universal for the specified profile. For an unfamiliar gutter, send a measured end-view sketch and photographs before ordering.
Common sizes include 5 and 6 inches, with larger options depending on the profile and material. Selected box-gutter products extend to 10 inches. Check the specific listing; the complete category size range is not available in every design. Custom sizes can be reviewed.
K-style and many box-gutter listings have separate left and right selections. Compare the product illustration with the gutter’s front and back orientation, or send a marked sketch. Some half-round caps fit either end of the specified gutter profile.
No. Universal may mean that the selected cap fits either end of a specified half-round profile. You still need to match the size and listed gutter compatibility. It does not mean one cap fits all shapes or manufacturers.
It is a decorative, rounded end treatment for a compatible half-round gutter. K&M’s copper spherical quarter-ball design carries the front bead around the end. Check the selected size and rear-bead detail for your gutter.
Laser-cut, fabricated caps use tabs that are bent to form attachment surfaces. Notches allow those tabs to follow the profile. This differs from stamped construction and may require a different fastening method.
No. Construction varies by product, size and material. Some caps are stamped, while others are laser cut and tabbed. Check the selected listing rather than assuming every common size is a crimp-on part.
Common options include 0.027-inch painted aluminum, 0.032-inch Kynar aluminum, 24-gauge Kynar steel or Galvalume Plus, and 16-ounce copper. Verify the exact product specification and match the requirements of the gutter assembly; other materials and thicknesses may differ.
They secure the cap mechanically, but the joint also needs the appropriate sealing detail. Use a compatible sealant or a suitable soldered joint as specified for the material and assembly. Check the completed connection for leaks.
K&M recommends soldered copper end-cap joints. Riveted and sealed connections are possible, but they are not K&M’s preferred approach for copper. The installer should select the joint preparation and joining materials for the particular assembly.
Choose solder and flux for the exact base metal, coating and project requirements. Copper, lead-coated copper, Freedom Gray and stainless steel should not automatically be treated as identical soldering applications. Confirm the material manufacturer’s guidance and the intended joint method.
Not necessarily. Front shape, bottom width, back height and hems can differ between box profiles. Match the named style and complete cross-section, or request a custom cap from a dimensioned drawing.
Yes. Send the full profile dimensions, material and thickness, finish, orientation and quantity. Photos or sample information are helpful for matching an existing installation. Fabrication options and preparation time are confirmed for the request.
Often, if the gutter end is sound and a matching cap is available. Check the fit, metal condition and existing joint. A damaged gutter end or failing surrounding material may need repair before a new cap can seal properly.
No. A gutter end cap closes the trough, while a solid-cover end cap finishes the guard or cover above it. Select the appropriate component for each part of the assembly.
An exact match cannot be assumed. Identify the original material, coating and color, and compare a current physical sample where available. Existing gutters may have weathered, and similarly named finishes can differ.
