 FAQs

Do all gutters need downspouts?

Yes, although in some very rare cases no end caps may be used to let water run off, or rain chains may also be used.

What size downspout do I need?

That question needs to be based on the roof area, the amount of rain the property receives and the pitch of the roof. Normally, 5" gutters call for 2"x3" or 3" downspouts while 6" gutters will have 4" or 3"x4" downspouts. For aesthetics, if the water runoff allows, 6" gutters may receive 3" or 2x3" downspouts. It is standard, although not mandatory to have square downspouts with k-style or box gutters and round downspouts with half-round gutters or brownstone gutters.

Can I get custom sizes and colors?

Yes, we can make longer downspouts, up to 19'6" with special colors and materials along with gutters and all accessories needed. It is not uncommon for us to manufacture 3x3, 4x4, 4x5, 4x6, 5x5, 6x6, 6", 7" and 8" round downspouts.
However, corrugated downspouts are roll formed. That means an specific machine is needed to run such profiles. Therefore we can only offer 3"x4" and 4" corrugated downspouts, but may be able to acquire other size downspouts from other manufacturers.

How do downspout lengths fit together?

The ends of some downspouts are crimped to accept another length. This is not always perfect, or always the case, for example plain square downspouts are not crimped and need to be notched on site. For such situations, or when a length needs to be cut we offer tools such as crimpers and snips.

What about leaves in my downspouts?

To fix the problem, you may purchase our gutter screen, that will protect the gutters from leaves. Strainers, will protect the pipes from leaves, while our own gutter downspout cleanouts allow for the downspouts to be cleaned when strainers are not present, however, even if present, some debris may still passed through.

Can I fit different size downspouts together?

Absolutely! We offer funnels and square to round downspout adapters.

Steel vs. Galvalume Plus vs. Aluminum vs. Copper vs. Zinc, so many choices!

  • Aluminum Pipes: The most cost effective all around best option. Normally offered in 0.027" thickness, which is a industry standard, it is also offered in 0.032" with Kynar materials, 0.040" and even thicker for custom applications. Lengths are put together via rivets / screws.
  • Galvalume Plus Downspouts: A solid approach for looks and durability. Galvalume metals are more rigid than aluminum and can withstand more abuse. Steel / Galvanized Leaders: Same as above. We offer galvanized steel colored gutters and accessories in 24 gauge material.
  • Copper Downspouts: The most classic choice. Although not the cheapest choice, copper downspouts and gutters look great and allow for a much more robust gutter drainage system. The main advantage of putting up a copper gutter system is that all gutter and downspout joints can and should be soldered. This allows for a long lasting product that can withstand the most harsh environments and it is one of the most commonly used system in areas of heavy rain and snow.
  • Zinc Downspouts: Zinc downspouts offer all the same advantages as copper and they also patina. However, if you don't like such a dramatic change in look as copper offers, zinc may be the best option for you.
  • Freedom Gray Downspouts: Zinc/Tin coated copper. Offer the same advantages as copper and zinc.
  • Lead Coated Copper: Lcc downspouts are as effective as copper, zinc and freedom gray with the advantage of already having lead on them, which means that any soldered joins are much less visible.
