Conductor heads (Leader heads - sometimes also referred to as scupper boxes or collector boxes) are items attached to the very top of downspouts (conductor/leaders), hence the names. Used for both aesthetics and functionality, helping to hold and steer excess water away from a gutter, scupper or valley for example.
K&M Sheet Metal can make and match just about any conductor head in a
variety of metals. Although the most popular conductor heads are made and
sold in copper, our standard available metals also include Aluminum, Kynar
Aluminum, Kynar Galvalume (Steel) as well as others such as Stainless Steel, Lead Coated Copper and Freedom Gray.
Along with offering historic reproductions we also have a large selection of conductor heads for you to choose from to fit your project's needs and budget.
All of our Conductor Heads are handmade here in the USA by our skilled craftsmen.
Our Conductor heads enhance the beauty and architectural style of a building. They are traditionally installed under the soffit to let air into the line which then prevents excess noise (gurgling) and helps stop vacuum lock. They are also used for through wall scuppers, roof drains and under valleys where there is a large amount of water that could overshoot or backup standard gutters.
K&M also offers inside and outside corner conductor heads.
All Conductor heads may also be available in other materials for custom orders. Please contact us for more information.

FAQs
What is the best material for a conductor head?
That would be application specific, however, materials that can be soldered result in a cleaner looking (no rivets), longer lasting leader head, without the need of sealant. Those materials are: copper, lead coated copper, stainless steel, freedom gray and zinc.
Why the names "leader head", "conductor head", "conductor box" and "scupper box"?
A downspout is also known as a "leader" or a "conductor". Since the leader head is mounted on top of the downspout, it looks like a head, hence the name.
The term "scupper box" comes from the fact that in flat or flatter roofs, a through wall scupper may be present, which shoots the water away from a roofing structure.
Typically, a "scupper box" is placed in front of the through walls cupper outlet, giving it its name.
Why are some models not available in aluminum, galvalume plus and steel?
Due to the intricacy, some profiles have to be manufactured in several parts. Attaching those with rivets may result in too many visible rivets for some profiles, and we choose not to offer those.
What is the aluminum and steel offered?
We offer high quality pre painted Kynar coated material from Pac Clad, for our Aluminum and Galvalume (steel) offering as well as standard 0.027" gutter coil material.
Why are aluminum, steel and galvalume plus conductor heads riveted?
We do not weld, however, Aluminum and Steel are pre painted materials, which could not be welded or soldered without damaging the finish. Same for Galvalume Plus.
Do riveted models need to be sealed?
Absolutely! Just like gutter sections or miter put together.
K&M offers a sealant option when purchasing those.
K&M Sheet Metal supplies custom leader heads and conductor heads to Gutter Contractors and Home Owners all over the country, as well as our local North Carolina Market (Raleigh, Charlotte, Durham).
