Architectural Roof Accents

A Finishing Detail with Character

Finials and spires create a focal point at the top of a roof, cupola, turret or other architectural feature. Their height, shape and proportions can complement a traditional building or give a new project a distinctive finishing touch.

K&M Sheet Metal fabricates finials, spires and weathervanes in copper, zinc and stainless steel. Explore the designs above or contact our team about a custom size, profile or reproduction. Material and finish options depend on the design.

We combine metal forming and fabrication with soldered construction where appropriate to the material and design. The base and installation details are just as important as the decorative shape: they should suit the roof geometry, supporting structure and surrounding roofing materials.

Choose a Material & Finish for Your Project

Copper

Copper offers a traditional appearance for decorative roof details and is suitable for soldered fabrication. Consider how the finial will coordinate with the roof, gutters and other architectural metalwork.

Zinc

Zinc provides another option for architectural finials and spires. Ask our team about its suitability for your chosen profile, the available finish and the connection to surrounding materials.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is an option for fabricated finials, including models with a powder-coated finish. Share your preferred color and design so we can confirm the available choices for your order.

Powder-coating color options for stainless steel models include Almond, Black, Bone White, Charcoal, Copper Penny, Dark Bronze and Medium Bronze. Confirm availability for the selected model. For a color-sensitive project, ask about a physical sample rather than relying on a screen image.

FAQs
Questions Before You Order

Finial, Spire & Weathervane FAQs

Learn more about custom designs, material options, finishes and the details to confirm before ordering.

What are finials and spires used for?

Finials and spires are primarily decorative architectural elements. They add height, shape and a finishing detail to rooflines, cupolas, turrets and similar features. The design and base should be selected to suit the building and mounting location.

What is the difference between a finial, a spire and a weathervane?

A finial is an ornamental finishing piece. A spire usually describes a taller, pointed architectural element. A functioning weathervane turns to indicate wind direction. The terms can overlap in product descriptions, so review the individual design, dimensions and intended function.

Can K&M make a custom finial or spire?

Yes. K&M can review a custom design and fabricate a finial or spire to the agreed specifications. Send a dimensioned drawing or sketch, reference photos if available, the quantity needed, and your preferred material and finish.

Can you restore or reproduce an existing finial or weathervane?

K&M works on finial, spire and weathervane restoration and reproduction projects. Send photographs, measurements and information about the condition of the existing piece so our team can review what is needed and discuss the available approach.

What is the best material for a finial?

The best choice depends on the design, desired appearance, roof materials, exposure and budget. K&M offers copper, zinc and stainless steel options. Joint construction, compatibility with adjoining materials and the mounting details also matter. Ask our team to review the material options for your specific project.

Can a finial be powder coated?

K&M offers powder coating for stainless steel finial models. Color options include Almond, Black, Bone White, Charcoal, Copper Penny, Dark Bronze and Medium Bronze. Confirm availability for the selected model and request a physical sample when matching a color is important.

How are finials installed?

Installation depends on the finial base, roof pitch, roof covering and supporting structure. The project may require mechanical fastening, soldered connections or a combination of methods. Have your roofing professional confirm the attachment and flashing details for the specific product and roof; a decorative finial does not by itself make a roof connection watertight.

Does a roof finial provide lightning protection?

A decorative finial alone does not provide a complete lightning protection system. If lightning protection is required, have a qualified lightning protection specialist determine whether the finial can be incorporated into a properly designed system. Discuss those requirements before fabrication; do not assume a standard decorative model is a lightning protection component.

How much does a finial cost?

Pricing depends on the size, material, finish, design complexity and fabrication requirements. Check the selected product for available online pricing and options. Custom designs, restoration and reproduction work require a quote based on your specifications.

Are finials in stock, and how long will an order take?

Availability and production time vary by product and order specifications. Contact K&M to confirm the timing for your selected design, especially for custom work or a firm project deadline. Allow for shipping time in addition to any fabrication time.

Can finials be shipped outside North Carolina?

Yes. K&M serves contractors and homeowners in North Carolina and offers nationwide shipping. Packaging and shipping arrangements depend on the size, shape and destination of the order. Review the Shipping Information page or contact our team with your delivery ZIP code.
